Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week

In September (18 – 26th) communities across the UK will join together for the ‘Great Big Green Week’

Welcome to the Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week!

Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week is 8 days of events (Sept. 18 – 26th 2021) helping and encouraging people and organisations to act to help tackle the climate crisis, and to protect and improve our environment. There are over 80 events planned across the county.  See the What’s On page for details, and you can download the programme here.

The Week takes place five weeks before world leaders meet in Glasgow for the United Nations ‘COP26’ Climate Conference.  The Week will help people to take action, to celebrate what is already being done, and to send the strongest possible messages to politicians in the UK and world leaders at the UN event. It is part of the national ‘Great Big Green Week’

Events are being organised by  organisations of all types and sizes across the county.  There’s a lot happening, including street fairs, woodland walks, public meetings and debates, repair cafes, a cycling festival, local food events, a treasure hunt, climate coffee mornings and more. There’s arts-themed events thanks to excellent work by the new Green Arts Oxfordshire Network. Several towns and villages are planning programmes of events – check the ‘Around Oxfordshire’ page on the website for what’s planned for Abingdon, Banbury, Chinnor, Eynsham, Faringdon, Henley, and Wallingford.

The Week is being developed by a voluntary working group. We would like to get reports and photos of any of theWeek’s events. Email us at the address above.

The Green Week is happening because people are getting involved. Many are organising their own events. We are also keen hear from people who would like to help with running the week.  Email us at hello@greenweekoxon.co.uk

I believe in human ingenuity – that when we decide on a task to be done, no matter how daunting it may seem at the beginning, we are able to unleash human ingenuity and human innovative capacity that was unknown, and takes us to a solution.
