About this event
This event will bring together social impact individuals and organisations working on their environmental impact through implementing sustainable practices within their business.
We will look at how Oxfordshire organisations are tackling environmental and social issues by working with suppliers, staff and stakeholders to reduce their environmental impact. We will be discussing key opportunities and challenges, and give attendees the chance to share news from their own organisations, exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations.
The session will start with an introduction and scene setting, followed by a panel discussion, before opening up to the room for discussion and questions.
The discussion will be led by the group and could cover a range of topics such as:
- Examples of inspiring sustainability practices
- Opportunities including the Better Business Act
- As businesses, how can we help tackle the climate crisis
- How supporting other local businesses can help your organisation
- Supply chain influence: how can businesses make positive changes
- The hurdles to making your business more sustainable
- Practical steps to making your business more sustainable from reducing plastic to carbon offsetting
- Green washing: how to spot it
This session will be limited in numbers to facilitate good discussion and strong connections to help build relationships and collaboration going forwards.
Who is it for?
This session is aimed at SMEs that include Social Enterprises, social entrepreneurs, enterprising charities and other purposeful businesses committed to enabling positive social and/or environmental impact, either through the work that they do or in the way they run their organisation.
You might have a high street shop, hospitality venue, social enterprise, trading charity or online business, that you are keen to make more sustainable and meet others who are on a similar journey.

Tap Social Movement is an award-winning craft brewery, events and hospitality business, which grew out of a passion for great beer and social justice. It provides training and employment to people serving and recently released from prison sentences to assist in effective rehabilitation and seeks to champion the cause of inclusive employment in the hospitality industry.
Emily Scaysbrook – Director at Hoyles of Oxford
Hoyles is an independent, family-run games shop based on Oxford’s High Street since 1997, they sell traditional and vintage table-top games including chess, backgammon, mah jong and go, alongside a wide range of board games. Emily has been striving to make the business sustainable since becoming a Director, and is currently working on their B Corps certification.
James Armitage – Director at Jericho Coffee Traders
Conceived in 2012, Jericho Coffee Traders has evolved from the back of a Vespa tricycle into a roastery and a speciality espresso bar in the heart of Oxford. Run by New Zealander James and Devonian wife Lizzie, JCT is now also supplying a number of Oxfordshire’s best cafes and restaurants with their coffee and has an ever expanding list of home and office coffee subscribers. James has been working to make the business carbon neutral and will be sharing his journey so far.
Alison Grunewald – Business Relationship Manager at Low Carbon Hub
Low Carbon Hub believes that community energy needs to be a fundamental part of the national energy transition. This means creating projects owned or controlled by communities, which aim to reduce energy demand or to supply renewable energy to power local buildings. Their ambition is for the whole of Oxfordshire to be powered by an interconnected series of smart micro-grids centred around multiple small scale, community controlled renewable energy schemes.
