‘Moths To A Flame’ at Westmill Wind Farm
Westmill has been selected as a ‘virtual landing site’ for the Moths to a Flame project run by The Art and Energy Collective, on its journey to the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on the 31st October 2021.
As a community energy partner, we’d like to welcome you to a free family event featuring Westmill site tours and demonstrations, plus a moth-making workshop, and other creative workshops linked to energy, sustainability and biodiversity.
Site tours and demonstrations will offer an insight into renewable energy, how the Westmill turbines work, the history of the site, and the background to installation of the five turbines and over twenty-thousand solar panels.
The workshops will include (but are not limited to):
- Making wildflower meadow seed bombs to attract moths and butterflies
- Cyanotype sun-printing (weather-dependent)
- Screen printing a canvas bag with sustainability-themed designs or BYO plain T-shirt printing
These workshops will be open to both adults and children. They will be relatively informal, with the aim of starting conversations about some of the important issues that need to be raised at COP26.
Whilst there will be some refreshments on-site, you are invited to bring a picnic, ideally with no plastic or non-compostable contents (when considering your picnic contents, we also encourage you to think about including home-cooking and wholesome food, with packaging which does not impact on the planet).
NB: This event is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled, postponed or cancelled if thunderstorms or gale-force winds are forecast, or occur during the event. If rain is forecast, the event will go ahead.
